Summary:
This position is responsible for coordinating the administrative and clinical activities for the nursing department for the Night Shift (12:
00 AM to 8:
00 AM).
RN with managerial and clinical experience in long term care is preferred.
Essential Responsibilities/Duties:
Supports and demonstrates practices consistent with the mission, philosophy, standards, policies and procedures of the nursing department.
Serves as an administrative resource and leader for the facility in the absence of the ADON/DON.
Delegates clinical and managerial responsibilities to nursing staff and serves as a resource to staff in clinical and managerial decision making.
Ensures nursing staff complies with facility policy and procedures.
Ensures that practices are consistent with regulatory requirements.
Identifies problems and reports and makes recommendations for addressing problems to the DON.
Makes frequent rounds on unit.
Identifies clinical and operational problems and communicates to nursing administration.
Makes rounds with nursing staff and physicians as needed.
Ensures appropriate staffing levels for the shift and allocates nursing personnel accordingly.
Recommends staffing patterns and needs to DON.
Ensures pharmaceuticals, equipment and supplies are available as needed.
Recommends equipment and supply needs to nursing administration.
Provides direct care as needed.
Obtains assistance for clinical emergencies and assists as necessary, including CPR.
Participates in and ensures appropriate assessment of residents.
Participates in the development, implementation, communication and evaluation of resident care plans.
Reviews and makes revisions as necessary, and ensures compliance with regulatory and other standards.
Communicates assessment and care plan with staff, residents and families.
Ensures staff is implementing care plans, delivering care appropriately and recognizing changes in residents' status.
Validates nursing staff's clinical decisions.
Assists staff in recognizing and addressing resident needs in a holistic manner.
Assists in discharge planning as needed.
Assists in problem resolution among staff, residents, families and visitors.
Participates in department orientation program for new employees.
Provides feedback to staff regarding their performance.
Maintains accurate records pertaining to performance.
Counsels, educates and coaches employees to maintain and improve competencies and work habits.
Communicates feedback with ADON/DON.
Consults with nursing administration regarding disciplinary action of employees.
Identifies educational needs of employees and makes recommendations to the ADON/DON.
Responsible for managing the retention of nursing staff.
Conducts meetings with nursing staff.
Communicates information and changes in facility policies and procedures.
Supports and participates in Quality Assurance programs; falling star, weight, skin, etc.
Prepares written and oral reports for DON.
Documents and investigates incidents and accidents.
Ensures problems and complaints involving nursing services are managed in a timely and appropriate manner.
Ensures resident and guests rights are protected and ensures they are free from abuse and neglect.
Adheres to and ensures that staff adheres to infection control practices.
Attends continuing education programs and reads current nursing literature to maintain competency and improve knowledge and skills.
Attends and ensures staff attends In-Service training to maintain and improve competencies.
Other duties as assigned.
